Johnny is the proprietor of The Rogue Gentlemen, a pre-prohibition inspired cocktail bar serving up farm-to-table cuisine in the historic Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond, VA. Read on to learn how to make Johnny's bittered moonshine and his accompanying Bitter Truth cocktail.
Bittered Belle Isle Moonshine Recipe
What you'll need - 1 bottle Belle Isle Premium Moonshine - .5 tsp wormwood - .5 tsp sassafras - 1 tbsp dried rosebuds - .5 sarsaparilla - 1 tbsp dried orange peel - 1 small branch of fresh pine
Here's how to make it Add ingredients and infuse at room temperature for 3 days. Strain infused spirit and discard ingredients.
Bitter Truth Cocktail Recipe
What you'll need - 1 oz Bittered Belle Isle Moonshine - .75 oz lime juice - .75 oz simple syrup - .5 oz green chartreuse
Here's how to make it Build ingredients over ice in a cocktail strainer. Shake vigorously and double strain into a chilled coupe.
"Bitter Truth" is a variation on an "Industry Sour." I love the intensely bitter and herbal flavors in this one. Its definitely my kind of cocktail.
